7 March 2023 @ 16 h 30 min - 17 h 30 min

Dream Emotions: A Window Into Waking Mental Health and Well-Being Have you ever woken up from a dream that left you feeling elated or terrified? It’s no secret that dreams can be emotional rollercoasters, and as it turns out, these emotional experiences are not just random occurrences. Scientists have been puzzling over why we have such vivid and intense dream experiences, and in recent research, they’ve begun to uncover some answers. In this presentation, I’ll take you on a journey through the latest scientific discoveries on emotional dream experiences, answering some of the most pressing questions we have. What exactly are our emotional dream experiences like? How are they related to our mental health and well-being? And, perhaps most excitingly, can we harness these experiences to improve our mental health? Through exploring these questions, we may begin to unlock the true purpose of our dreams, and even find new tools to address the mental health issues that affect us all. Short bio: Dr. Pilleriin Sikka is a postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford University’s Department of Psychology (US) and a senior lecturer in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Skövde’s Department of Cognitive Neuroscience and Philosophy (Sweden). Dr. Sikka explores the nature and continuity of emotions, and how we regulate them, across wakefulness and sleep. By integrating emotion research, sleep and dream research, well-being research, and consciousness research, Dr. Sikka seeks to understand how our emotional experiences across the wake-sleep cycle affect our health and well-being.
