B&C Tuesday Seminar “Serial dependence in brain and behavior”

21 November 2023 @ 12 h 15 min - 13 h 15 min

Abstract : The current content of perception is determined both by current and past stimuli. Indeed, recent perceptual history influences what we see now. In the lab, this temporal integration is measured by a phenomenon known as serial dependence, the attraction of perceptual reports towards past stimuli. In this talk, I will present the basic behavioral characteristics of serial dependence: spatial, temporal and feature tuning, as well as some high-level determinants such as attention and object identity. I will also present work on the cerebral correlates of serial dependence, showing that it is possible to decode the past in the response to current stimuli, and that past history leaves an identifiable neural signature. This neural signature is distinct from cerebral correlates of current perception, arguing for a separable neural code between memory and perception.
