SUMMARY:Talk Toby Wise (Brain & Cognition Seminar)
DESCRIPTION:Algorithms and anxiety Toby Wise\, King’s College London Anxiety is a fundamental emotion which is vital for survival\, but which is also a core component of many disabling mental health problems. Recent developments from computational neuroscience and psychiatry have begun to take a new approach to the mechanisms underpinning anxiety\, both in health and disorder. In this talk\, I will cover work I have conducted seeking to build computational models of avoidance and anxiety\, exploring both the ways in which anxiety can help individuals to avoid danger\, and the ways in which avoidance can go awry in mental health problems. I will also discuss novel ways for assessing decision-making processes relevant for anxiety\, focusing on the use of more naturalistic\, gamified assessments.
