Talk Agneta Fischer (CISA lecture series)
23 septembre @ 12 h 15 min - 13 h 15 min
The impact of emotional public life on individual emotions. Since WWII, culture in many Western societies have become emotionalized, which is due to two societal trends: the ominpresent exposure to other’s emotion expressions, and the acknowledgement and validation of emotions as a framework to make decisions or develop policy. The question is how such societal trends impact individuals’ emotions. Taking Frijda’s (1985) theory of emotions as a starting point, I seek connections between sociological and social-psychological theories of emotion. I develop 4 new emotion laws (in addition to Frijda’s emotion laws), exploring how social context (e.g., (in)direct presence of other people, emotion norms, regulation practices) enters and forms the emotional life of individuals.
